SAN ANTONIO HEIGHTS >> For Albert and Maryalice Jones, Valentine’s Day is more than just the holiday of love. Maryalice was born 92 years ago on Valentine’s Day. The couple, married 69 years, enjoyed a birthday meal and a get-together with family on Saturday at the Oakmont of San Antonio Heights retirement community.
Albert, 96, lives in the assisted living part of the community, and Maryalice is in the Traditions memory care community.
Albert worked for two decades at General Dynamics in Pomona, and then another two decades at Jones Travel Associates in Claremont (now in Upland). Maryalice was an industrial nurse at the Baxter Medical Clinic at the Claremont Colleges and volunteered at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.
Maryalice broke her hip in December, and after her recovery, the Jonesse moved to Oakmont.
“It was just a very good feeling because they had been together for 69 and a half years and my mother’s injury sort of separated them,” said son Patrick Jones, 67, of Ontario. “My mother’s injury sort of separated them. Of course, my dad could visit her in the hospital.
“But they weren’t living together since mid-December, and this was really their first celebratory meal together since the injury. It was very nice to have that opportunity.”
